EHRC Funded Project - April 2008 to March 2009
“Making Disability Information Accessible to Individuals from Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) Groups in Surrey”SID received funding from the Equalities & Human Rights Commission (EHRC) in April 2008 to explore and make recommendations to address the dual disadvantage in accessing disability information often experienced by disabled people from BME communities in Surrey.
The first phase of the project was a piece of desk based research to produce a literature review of current national findings.

The current and final phase of the project includes:-
- Networking with both Surrey based and national service providers and BME community group leaders
- Running workshops to explore barriers, best practice and resources when supporting BME individuals and groups to access services and benefits
- Developing a web based data source of the BME Community groups in Surrey
- Designing a booklet to act as a reference guide for service providers when working with BME groups/individuals
